Shop class equips your student with the skills needed to fulfill the innate desire to create, to use our hands, and to make beautiful and functional things.
At Fire Lake Forge, we teach your student how to combine an idea with raw materials, tools, math, science, and art in order to create those beautiful and functional things.
Homeschool Shop Class meets from 1 – 4 and is available as a Tuesday or Thursday class.
After-School Shop Class was crafted with the public-schooled student’s schedule in mind but is for all students.
Our students routinely use drill presses, chop saws, grinders, and a wide assortment of hand tools in our 1,000-square-foot of dedicated shop space, aka “the dirty side.” And since we are a working forge, they will also have blacksmithing added to the mix. When they aren’t in the dirty side, they will be receiving instruction or doing finish work in our classroom, aka “the clean side.”
Aside from the essential skills these students are learning, it is amazing to see what it does for their self-confidence. Many lessons are learned in shop class, but they don’t all have to do with wood, leather, and metal. Some of the most important lessons are self-assessment, receiving feedback, and learning to ask for help.
